The U.D. Alinnor led administration has commenced the construction of the Cloakroom project conceived under the immediate past administration.
In an interview with the Cloakroom Facility Committee, the Committee gave us insights on the commencement of the Cloakroom project and what to expect.
The Committee plans to organise the groundbreaking ceremony of the project in April 2024, by then going to the project site will show the extent of work done. It is also expected that the project will have reached the DPC level. The Bar and the Committee will be soliciting support from members to ensure the completion of the project within the projected completion date in June 2025.
The Cloakroom project is expected to feature and serve the following purposes:
1. Functional and well-equipped office for key/principal members of the branch executives.
2. The facility will also feature a robing room for lawyers, where lawyers can dress for court and undress their robes after court sitting.
3. A multi-purpose hall which will serve not only for Bar functions but for hire to members of the Bar and the public; functions like weddings, child dedication/churching etc.
4. The Cloakroom will also feature functional toilet facilities to curb the current challenge of lawyers not having anywhere to ease themselves within the High Court Premises.
5. The facility will also feature recreational facilities for members' relaxation, including lounges and catering services, where members of the Bar can eat and relax while waiting for their matters in court or while waiting to conduct other businesses within the High Court Premises.
This and many more are the benefits of this laudable project and the Bar welcomes the support of members to actualise the project.
